YOUTH SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISE CHALLENGE PROGRAMME (YSECP) RIVERS STATE.

The Youth Sustainable Enterprise Challenge Programme (YSECP), delivered in Rivers State by ENDIP in partnership with the British Council and King’s Trust International, brought together ambitious young people in Port Harcourt for an intensive eight-week enterprise development journey.

The programme moved participants from orientation through structured training to a high-impact final pitch and award ceremony, equipping them with practical skills, confidence and market readiness.

TASTER DAY

The programme began with a focused Taster Day designed to introduce participants to the structure, expectations and outcomes of YSECP.

The session outlined the eight-week commitment, clarified safeguarding standards and presented the broader vision of youth-led enterprise development. Participants were also introduced to mentors, facilitators and the support systems available throughout the programme.

Interactive activities encouraged connection and collaboration, while alumni testimonials demonstrated the tangible impact of previous cohorts.

By the end of the day, participants had a clear understanding of the journey ahead and the level of professionalism required to succeed.

TRAINING SESSION

Over eight weeks, participants engaged in structured and practical training designed to strengthen both entrepreneurial capability and personal development.

The sessions focused on:

1. Business planning and model development

2. Professional conduct and work ethics

3. Investor readiness and pitching skills

4. Digital tools for enterprise growth

5. Leadership, communication and teamwork

6. Safeguarding and inclusive engagement

Participants presented assignments, received structured feedback and progressively refined their business ideas. 7. Peer-led sessions and interactive learning approaches strengthened

confidence and accountability.

By the final weeks, participants were demonstrating clearer business models, improved financial thinking and stronger presentation skills, preparing them for the pitch stage.

PITCHING AND AWARD DAY

The programme culminated in a Final Business Pitch and Award Ceremony.

Participants presented their ventures before a panel of judges, each allocated a structured time for pitching and questions. Businesses represented diverse sectors including agribusiness, ICT, fashion, food production, manufacturing and services.

The event also featured a marketplace exhibition, allowing guests and stakeholders to interact directly with youth-

led enterprises.

Speakers at the ceremony reinforced a key message: empowering young entrepreneurs is a sustainable solution to unemployment and economic instability.

Eight winners emerged following the final evaluation process.

However, the wider success lay in the transformation witnessed across the entire cohort, increased confidence, stronger networks and improved enterprise readiness.

LOOKING AHEAD

YSECP Rivers State demonstrated that when young people are equipped with the right skills, support and structure, they become drivers of economic and social progress.

The programme was not simply a training

cycle, it was a strategic investment in youth-led innovation and sustainable enterprise development.
